Cancer is one of the fast growing diseases in the recent past decades. In early time, the main concern with this disease was that there were no signs and symptoms that were noticed in its earlier stage. But with the increase in the technology and medical science, the diagnosis of lung cancer was made possible. The main problem with lung cancer was the uncontrollable growth of cancerous cells that enter both the lungs which finally lead to the death of the individual. There are basically 2 types of lung cancer namely, small cell carcinoma and non-small cell carcinoma. The small cell carcinoma shows some early symptoms and also gets spread at a higher pace whereas the non-small cell carcinoma affects the linings of the main bronchi. According to the latest statistics, the small cell carcinoma causes 20% of the total lung cancer cases whereas the non-small cell carcinoma causes 80% of the total lung cancer cases. Lung cancer is the major cause for death in both males and females. Smoking is the major cause of lung cancer, especially in men.
The treatment for lung cancer depends on the stage of the cancer as well as the health/condition of the patients. Usually in other types of cancer, surgery is an option for the treatment of cancer, but in this case, we cannot perform the surgery. Therefore the best part of the treatment lies on chemotherapy, in which the cancerous cells are damaged and destroyed so that they cannot further spread in the other parts of the body.
There are other types of chemotherapy such as first line chemotherapy, second line chemotherapy, adjuvant chemotherapy and neo-adjuvant chemotherapy that are given to patients for treating cancer. Lung cancer chemotherapy is given orally as well as intravenously. Usually the oral medicines are given at the early stages whereas at the later stages the medicines are injected intravenously for fast recovery process. While undergoing lung cancer chemotherapy, it is important that the patients should be calm and composed and should not panic at all. Sometimes 2-3 types of medicines are combined and injected in the body of the patient. The treatment of lung cancer also includes hormonal therapy, radiation therapy, and photodynamic therapy for destroying the cancerous cells. The process for the treatment of lung cancer may differ from one individual to another, depending upon the capacity of the person. Usually the process of chemotherapy is not so easy; it depends on the way you take the treatment. Therefore it is recommended to know all the pros and cons of chemotherapy before undergoing the treatment procedure.
